"For Love of Music"Amalfi Coast Tour
June 27 - July 5, 2020
Tour led by Barbara Jacksier, president of George Mason University’s Friends of Music and Washington DC area HD Live ambassador for The Metropolitan Opera, and her husband, historian Everett Chasen.
Barbara and Ev welcome the George Mason University community and music lovers everywhere to join them on the breathtakingly beautiful Amalfi Coast for a vacation trip you’ll always remember!
Overview:
We’ll stay in the charming coastal town of Maiori, Italy, and be honored guests at the 25th anniversary season of the Amalfi Coast Music & Art Festival.
You’ll have the opportunity to observe master classes, workshops, and rehearsals involving talented young singers from throughout the world honing their craft in the country where opera is revered above all other art forms; and
You can visit the area’s historic and scenic sites with professional guides including the ruins of Roman Pompeii; the romantic seaside town of Positano; the breathtaking gardens of Ravello; and the imposing architecture of the town of Amalfi itself; or
You can spend your day in a beach chair on your hotel’s private beach or hike between Italy’s most picturesque seaside villages.
Decide on your itinerary for the day as the spirit moves you!
And every evening after dinner (most dinners included, along with breakfast, in the cost of the trip), enjoy wonderful concerts in historic churches, under the stars or in historic locations throughout the region.
Musical highlights during your time at the Festival will include Puccini's Suor Angelica, scenes from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) and a major choral production of a Requiem, directed by the composer. You’ll enjoy dining with and getting to know some of the world’s finest young singers; Professor Patricia Miller, GMU’s director of vocal studies and Stan Engebretson, GMU's Director of Choral Studies, plus other extraordinarily talented educators and musicians.
You’ll have exclusive access to free pre-concert events and presentations during which the opera conductor and Requiem composer will provide important insights about the productions.
For a small additional fee, you can take classes on Mediterranean cooking or basic Italian, to make your stay even more memorable.
