Diane King - Soprano

VSO School of Music

Diane King, soprano, was born in Vancouver, Canada.  She graduated with a degree in Voice Performance from the University of British Columbia and holds a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Voice from the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England

 

Diane has performed to critical acclaim in opera, oratorio, musical theatre, chamber and art song recitals in Vancouver, Toronto, Rome and London.   Some of the roles she has sung are The Countess in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Luisa Miller in Verdi’s Luisa Miller, Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen, and Giulietta in Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffmann.   With orchestra she has performed in Verdi’s Requiem, Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Haydn’s Creation, Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate, Bach’s Magnificat and Handel’s Messiah.

 

Diane has served as a faculty member and Chairman of the Board of VISI, the Vancouver International Song Institute.  She is a member of NATS and is active as an adjudicator.  Diane has also lectured extensively in Opera Appreciation and been a leader for international opera tours.

 

Diane has been teaching voice for 30 years and is currently the Voice Department Head and principal voice teacher at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music.  

 

Many of Diane’s students are successfully pursuing professional singing careers in opera and musical theatre.  Her students are consistent award and competition winners and regularly attend prestigious music schools across North America.
